Strengthens presence in Sri Lankan leisure industry
Hayleys PLC and its group companies acquired Amaya Leisure PLC on September 1st 2011, marking a significant milestone in the development of the conglomerate’s Leisure and Aviation business sector. Amaya Resorts and Spas consist of three properties, namely Amaya Lake in Dambulla, Amaya Hills in Kandy and Langdale by Amaya in Nuwara Eliya.
“As Sri Lanka continues to grow in stature as a leisure hub, we continue to improve our position for growth, through strategic ownership and management of city hotels and high end niche market resorts.” Chairman and Chief Executive of Hayleys Mohan Pandithage affirmed.
The investment marks Hayleys’ third acquisition in the hotel industry, having previously taken over the management of the five-star Ceylon Continental Hotel in 2010, and more recently Hunas Falls in August. Hunas Falls PLC and Hotel Services PLC, the holding company of Ceylon Continental Hotel, are also controlled by Hayleys PLC. All three entities are at present part of the Group’s Leisure and Aviation business sector, which was formed in 2009.
Established in 1878 and rated a Business-to-Business (B2B) Superbrand among Sri Lanka’s diversified conglomerates; the Hayleys Group employs more than 30,000 people, and accounts for 2.78 per cent of Sri Lanka’s export income. Hayleys PLC is widely considered as the leading conglomerate in Sri Lanka.
